Invaluable' help
Among grateful subscribers to Schools Support Service is the Cardinal Newman School in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The headmaster, Mr M F Jones, said, "The Schools Support Service role with us included working with pupils in lessons and also withdrawing pupils for one-to-one sessions. They also helped staff to supervise pupils in the playground and in the dining hall as well on the school bus. They also made some home visits"

"We have had three HMI visits in the last year and each of their reports has been increasingly positive," Mr Jones said. "A major factor in this improvement is that for the past six months we have been fortunate to have the services of three Pupil Mentors from Schools Support Service. Their work - as staff, pupils and parents will agree - has been invaluable."
